New Year, New Start – New Year’s Resolutions For Teachers

With the coming new year, it’s time to start making resolutions for the rest of the school year. Up your teaching game with this list of teaching resolutions and methods for achieving these resolutions!

    1) Get Your Classroom Organized

A quick and effective resolution for teacher’s this New Year’s is to organize your classroom. By the middle of the year the organization systems you put into place are either thriving or in need of a major overhaul; if you’re in the latter category, it might be wise to use this new semester as a way to get organized.

Take note of what has and hasn’t worked so far in your classroom and make the necessary adjustments to reorganize your classroom!

    2) Time Management & Work-Life Balance

Time management and work-life balance go hand in hand. The more you have of one, the more you’ll gain of the other. As a resolution this year, try to better balance your work and home life by implementing time management skills and new boundaries that keep your work in the classroom and not the living room!

    3) Update Teaching Style

Another resolution to consider is updating your teaching style. Half the year has gone by, are your students learning to the best of their ability or are there some changes to the way that you present information to them that could make learning easier?

Maybe your class is full of visual learners so in the second half of the school year you’ll incorporate more visual elements to your lesson plans. Or, if your students do better with writing down information to retain it, you’ll assign more writing assignments. By adapting to suit the needs of your students you will see improving grades throughout the rest of the school year.

    4) Grading Method

Is it time to update your grading method? Are you still grading every written assignment and essay scoring by hand? This year it’s time to upgrade to a digital paper grader!
